Modern-day sports and the world-class athletes who excel at them take center stage in this journey through sports science. This course provides students with a survey of the impact of physics, biomechanics, and physiology on 14 modern sports. The first unit describes the role physics plays in a variety of sports, from the aerodynamics involved in auto racing to the force behind a boxer’s right hook. The next unit investigates the biomechanics of these sports, discussing concepts such as the contortions of a gymnast’s body and the cause of tennis elbow. The last unit focuses on the limits of the human body, describing the energy used by cyclists during a climb through the Alps and the reaction time required to hit a fastball traveling at 90 miles per hour. Overall, the course presents engaging information that will forever change how students perceive world-class athletes and competition.

EdisonLearnNow (ELN) offers self-paced, high-quality online courses for students looking to supplement their education. Whether you’re taking a course for credit recovery, acceleration, or enrichment, our flexible options help meet your needs.
All ELN courses are self-paced.
Students may take as long as needed to complete a course. If needed, we can align the course with a specific school schedule and adjust dates as the student progresses.
No prerequisites are required for any ELN course.

The process is simple:
All courses are asynchronous, meaning students may work independently with all-inclusive, self-contained courses. Our curriculum includes multiple learning tools to engage every kind of learner, including videos, visuals, and plenty of practice – especially in math courses! Our goal is to provide learning opportunities that meet the needs of students in any situation, meaning flexibility is core to what we do.
If your student would like to meet live with their teacher, they can always request a Personalized Live Session (PLI). PLIs give the student a chance to ask specific questions in a one-on-one format. We also have office hours for each subject daily, where a student may jump into a Zoom room with one of our full-time teachers.
Yes! Coordinating with your district is helpful for us; however, it is not required. We recommend that you reach out to your district prior to enrollment.
Some school districts already use EdisonLearning courses. If you’re currently enrolled in a district that uses Edison courses, contact your school’s advisory team to complete enrollment.
Every school has different policies regarding transfer credits. We recommend speaking with your school counselor to confirm before enrolling.
